The Guqin is the oldest plucked string instrument in Chinese history and the Wuzhizhai Qinpu is the most widely circulated guqin manual since the Qing dynasty. It was compiled and printed by Zhou Lufeng of the Qing dynasty based on the transmitted scores of Xu Qi, and completed in the 60th year of the Kangxi reign and the 2nd year of the Yongzheng reign.
The collection consists of Nine volumes and contains over 30 pieces, most of which include source references. The fingerings are detailed and precise, with marginal notes highlighting the editor’s refinements and comments. The postscript is particularly noteworthy, offering insights into the compiler’s unique understanding of the works.
